        Then how'd it become an evolutionary success? It's too big to be an ambush predator, and if it can't run it'd be too slow to catch prey

        It might have been a scavenger, taking the kills of faster hunters or it might have hunted slow prey like some huge sauropods.

        I can see the sauropods helping, but the size of T-rex, it'd have to eat all day if it was a scavenger, unsure if that's enough.

        I'm thinking of the short faced bear which was not too fast but so big that it could walk up to a fresh kill & scare off whatever killed it.

        The T Rex might have been similar. It could have waited for a pack of smaller theropods to take down prey & then just walk up and take it.

        Though, to your point, a sauropod could feed 3 Rex's for up to a week, assuming they eat everything, not just musculature.
