You lede is misleading. The initial action needs to be named first. The employees actions were attempts to protect herself. Let me ask you. What do you think might have happened to this employee had her attacker succeeded in pulling her over that counter?
-
Who would have been throwing the punches then? We all need You, with your powerful platform to think more carefully about what you write. Words are so powerful. Your choices frame the narrative. Please be more careful.

How did this not start with "Man assaults McDonald's employee who was then forced to defend herself"?
-
"Man assaults..." would still have gotten you clicks & would have been much more accurate.
-
The original tagline immediately zeroes in on the fact that she punched him. I felt it should be overtly clear that she was defending herself.

This headline makes the white boy who attacked the black Woman the victim. That’s how y’all do it over and over. Calling 1-800-BULLSHIT again.
-
If she had been free, white, and 21, attacked by a black man, it would read that a THUG attacked innocent GIRL at McDonald’s

as a journalist, you KNOW the order of information is important. You led with the employee punching a customer, people will click on your story because they're hoping to find a scandal, not that she was violently attacked. Do better, CBS

She did get a couple of good shots in to his knucklehead. So that was good.
-
A couple? He better be glad that the counter was in the way. That's what's known as "Writing a Check that your A#$ Can't Cash!"
