It’s sad. He comes across as intelligent and sincere. Too bad he doesn’t walk the walk when it comes to DT.
-
exactly. none of them do. and we won’t ever forget

so the legislator doesn't want people paying attention to what he is doing. noted.
-
I think there's a distinction to be made between paying attention and watching 6+ hours of your tribe's cable news every day.
-
yeah sure. that's the thing, what he's saying isn't incorrect. but politics should be a place where everyone can be involved and included. because it affects everyone. he's not giving any reasons or solutions, why is politics a bad place to look if you are lonely?
-
I sont think Sasse is suggesting anyone shouldn't be involved, but that there are other associations much more likely to bring happiness to lonely people. Does politics make anybody happy?
-
Political tribalism can certainly make someone feel a part of something bigger than themselves, but aside from canvassing or gotv activities, I don't see how it's a help for the lonely.

Ben acted like a big baby during the Kavanaugh hearing, slapping the microphone away after rambling a supportive remark akin to Lindsey Graham. Now he wants civility? Didn't he right this ridiculous book before that hearing, right? I'm calling Bull Shit.

This is quite the hot take really. Essentially he is arguing that you shouldn’t be overly concerned about politics bc it will make you “unhappy.” Never mind our entire system is based on civic engagement.
-
There is a difference between obsessing and engaging.
-
True, however there are pivotal times in our history that “obsession” was needed to move change forward. Id say Franklin, Washington, MLKJr, Kennedy were all “obsessed” via this definition.
-
It's pretty insulting and racist to compare MLK's fight to today's fake outage.
-
Really. Tell that to all the people currently fighting for Civil Rights to not be rolled back as an effort to make America 1950 again strengthens.
-
What are you talking about? Are you insane?

What does this even mean? That we shouldn’t be looking for meaning in politics?

That’s a first. Never heard that one before. I thought people look to religion as a place to find meaning. But politics - never.
