Can't parents just lay down the law and mandate earlier bed times? It's not a kid's right to stay up to watch @colbertlateshow or @FallonTonight.

According to science their bodies sleep clock won't let them fall asleep earlier so the only solution is sleep longer in the morning.

Shouldn't we also return to starting school after Labor Day and ending a little later in June? We'd avoid California's heat waves.

How about making kids go to sleep earlier instead? What will they do when they get a job? Ask the boss to let them come in late? Parents need to take control.

It’s actually a physiological problem. Between roughly 13 and 17, their circadian rhythms change. They literally can’t go to sleep earlier.

Drinking lattes doesn't help either. I worked in a high school and those kids drank a LOT of coffee while wandering the halls. Looks like it may be passed good luck to the folks in California; wait till this impacts their daily commute...
