I was once an addict with a newborn—one conceived by rape. Instead of a policeman adopting her and leaving me to continue to struggle and possible die, I used society’s safety net to recover. A judge granted my mother custody. I found a long-term outpatient treatment center 1/

I lived with my mother, attended treatment, AA meetings, and bonded with my daughter. Today she is a sophomore in high school and I am 15 years sober. Instead of discarding addicted mothers as hopeless cases, focus on giving her and her baby a chance to recover and thrive. /2pic.twitter.com/1PPj6SHlDp

My daughter is an Ambassador level Girl Scout earning her Gold Award—their highest honor. I am an author. Social safety nets like

Damn, it's gonna suck when that baby finds out first hand just how statistically likely it is for a police officer to domestically abuse his family.
-
Maybe try giving her a chance and have some optimism?
-
I would love to give her a chance, but I'm not ready to adopt and I'm not sure you can adopt a child away from a police officer. All we can do now I'm afraid is send our thoughts and prayers for the loss.

Taking advantage of ppl with drug addictions to take their children. Help her get into rehab? Help her with a job and housing? Your solution is to take the baby while she still getting high and homeless? Hero? I guess
