"We always knew that based on the level of the catastrophe that Puerto Rico suffered that there were going to be -- there was going to be a high number of deaths," says Carlos Mercader, who helped facilitate report on Hurricane Maria deaths https://cbsn.ws/2BTtJXO pic.twitter.com/WLT6Wjfmir

"It's 2,975 people who suffered, who went through difficult times. And as government officials, we understand what is behind that, and obviously we take this report now trying to learn from it," Carlos Mercader tells

The GWU study "goes deep into some statistics that we will be finalizing and obviously using them to create a new set of guidelines, a new set of protocols that Puerto Rico and the rest of the nation can use for catastrophes," Mercader tells

“We definitely understand that there were a lot of -- we've committed errors in the process,” Carlos Mercader says. “And we have a responsibility of making sure that we prepare Puerto Rico for a future event like this.” https://cbsn.ws/2BTtJXO pic.twitter.com/NB0JqApnn5

This is disengenious at best. Initial death toll of 64 concerned the immediate deaths caused during the hurricane. To conflate deaths in the following 5 months with the immediate deaths, and portray difference as govt malfeasance in reporting is BS propaganda

So says a former Trump staffer

...and so worthless Mueller didn't even have to bother talking to, apparently, since she seems desperate for another seat on the wingnut welfare gravy train.

Wow two people that can't read. Color me not surprised. I'm curious is anyone in the resistance able to take past the end of their feet?
-
Your petty insult would work better if it didn't have a glaring typo and nonsensical statement in it. I mean, "... take past the end of their feet"? That doesn't make any sense. I guess Trump really did hire the "best" people.

Bullshit. Don't disrespect our dead. This doesn't have to do with politics, regardless of the damn party, the fact is both the local and federal government failed our ppl. It may not fit your narrative, but it's the true story of what our ppl lived & so many died as a result of
-
The federal government did not fail you in any way. What did they do with the billions in aid that they got already?
-
Listen buddy...the federal government failed our fellow American citizens...the aid provided is not commensurate with the devatation...there was no urgency & no commitment from the Federal Gvmnt...so many examples to give you but Twitter still doesn't have enough characters

There were 1833 deaths after Hurricane Katrina if any one else was wondering. The lack of an outcry about PR is an abomination and truly shameful.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

CBS should clarify that it was a Democrat party that runs PR
-
Wrong! The New Progressive Party is, which is the Republican Party in Puerto Rico. Do some research before making amateur statements like that.
-
Most of it's leadership is. But calling the PNP the Republican party is absurd.
-
It is NOT absurd to compare and equate the PNP to and with the GOP. The PNP aligns itself with Republican “values” and both support Statehood. Both are not anything like the Democratic Party or political position.
-
I will not tolerate any idiocy on the subject from Puerto Rico by anyone who is either misinformed greatly, is closed minded or incapable of critical thinking.
-
Then how about direct information from a native Puerto Rican? Sorry, but there are both Republicans and Democrats in the PNP party. The PPD are mostly Democrats, I believe. Current governor and others are Democrats. But nobody cares in PR bc those two parties aren't our reality.
-
I have a theory as to why most newyoricans have that perception about PR politics. The first puerto ricans that moved to NYC were pro PPD(like almost everyone at the time) and at the time the opposition was the PR Republican Party(which had almost no support at all).
-
That PR Republican party not only changed it's name but it also accepted Dem statehood supporters when it became the PNP. So many of these newyoricans have been told about PR politics by their grandparents and such which have these views that are NOT accurate at this time.
