About 100 children are kidnapped each year in the stranger abduction you hear about in the news. Good to know you’re ok with letting 8 year olds wonder the streets alone

I walked 4 blocks to school by myself at age 5, everybody did. How utterly stupid.

I wonder what Mollie’s parents would say to you if they read your comment

Perhaps I’m an overprotective parent, but I would never let my child out of my sight at that age alone. No community is ammune. If anything ever happened to her, that I could have easily prevented , I wouldn’t be able to live with myself

This is absurd. Kids only learn how to be independent when allowed to be independent. At 8, the girl is old enough to be out by herself. My dog-walker is 8 & takes the dog around the block. Her mom & I know where she is.

Holly shit...when I was a kid of only 6 I ranged alone for upwards of a mile or more from my parents and home, kids aren't allowed to grow up anymore!

An 8-year-old is perfectly capable of walking the dog alone.

I found her answer puzzling. She said, among other things, that she is an upper middle class mother. My confusion: only lower class ppl neglect their children?. I know that’s not true.
