Why do people feel the need to destroy monuments and history just because it was negative? It's history, if it's offensive at least let it be moved into a museum.

It is not history. It is a message of intimidation put up by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1912
-
Thus history.
-
It is a representative of the Lost Cause movement.
-
That does not justify the vandalism and destruction of historical monuments. Whatever it stood for, it's something that has to be treasured so future generations have something left to see. Are we gonna vandalize all monuments now if it is associated with something offensive?
-
It is pro Confederate propaganda. If people want to see it it should not be put in a public space of high regard. Move it to a museum of the history of racism or something like that.
-
Like I said, at least move it to the museum without having to vandalize the monument.

College kids have never been known for their coolheaded patience. I am sure there have been petitions and debates but obviously that wasn’t moving things along fast enough for their liking.

These statues are not history. They are Lost Cause propaganda pieces put up to intimidate blacks from “getting out of line” in the 1910s and 20s by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
-
Clearly you don’t understand the definition of the word history
-
I don’t consider pro Confederate Revisions of History to fall under the definition of general “History” as we use it today. The Lost Cause revisions did happen making them a historical fact, but their intention was to muddle historical reality.

Isn’t this vandalism?
-
it's excellent vandalism, yes
-
What is excellent vandalism?
-
the kind that tears down monuments meant to honor racist traitors, hope that clears things up
-
Just because someone doesn’t agree with what that statue represents doesn’t mean they have the right to tear it down. This statue has been around since 1913. What is wrong with these people?!
