Keep it 5 but bring back gym, art and music and then take the corporations out of it. 5 days won't be an issue.

That's an ignorant question. Let me rephrase it for you: is a four-day week in the students' best interest? Will they only be learning 80% of what they would with a 5-day week? And why aren't the tax payers willing to invest in schools?

I’m sure the parents love it, you know, what with free child care, and all those places that offer a Monday-only schedule.
-
Why should districts be worried about parents work schedules? School isn’t daycare.

As long as I could still get free meals on the Monday being slashed from the school week, I wouldn't have cared.

My summers were like that too. I went to summer school every summer.

Yaaaassss! It was a blessing when one of the school districts from Shawnee OK served breakfast and lunch during the summer. I would have starved.

I think this idea can get some traction! Saves districts a lot of money.
-
And what will parents do with their kids on Monday if they have to work?

Where does recess fit in? Longer days often mean less physical activity. More homework may get shifted into the 3 day weekends, when teachers are crunched for time.
