I’m sure that I’ll get chewed out for asking, but why does this matter? I’ve watched countless gay actors and actresses play the part of straight people for years.

And that is why it is called ACTing... Does this mean that gay actors can only accept gay roles? The argument goes both ways...

Why is it ok for Sir Ian McKellen to play Magneto or Gandalf. The gays didn’t bother to protest. How come a straight dude playing a gay guy is unacceptable? It’s just a role people. So grow up

If he went out, acted and was chosen his sexual orientation should not be taken into factor at all. They didn’t seek him out, he auditioned like everyone else.

That's exactly it. If they just wanted him and offered him the role I could understand the outrage. Besides that he is playing what sounds like a very stereotypical gay man. Not sure why most gay actors would want to play that unless they were naturally like the character

Yeah it’s very hard for me to understand this backlash, actors act, whether gay or straight let him live! I don’t remember there being an outrage with @JaredLeto in #dallasbuyersclub

There was but only after he turned in an amazing performance and ended up winning a bunch of awards for it. Point is Jack didn't do anything wrong by trying out for a part and getting it. He isn't exactly a household name in the US and this movie could lead to more work

It's an acting role based on auditions, not sexual orientation...

As a gay man i see no problem with him being hired to act like a character in a film THAT'S WHAT ACTORS DO !!

Another thing is no one should have to reveal their sexual orientation. It's no one's DAMN business. I mean seriously why do we need "labels" anyway?

When the hell did this start being an issue?!?! People complain about the dumbest things these days! It’s called acting! Does this mean a 40-year old single actress with no kids can’t play a married mother?!

Isn't the definition of actor "person who pretends to be someone they aren't"?
