Run it through the inflation calculator and it comes spectacularly close to what the average new car costs today.

Ford was one of -if not the first -company to employee people of color in good paying jobs, not simply as janitors and cooks. Indeed it’s said Ford created the middle class.

@VelshiRuhle According to inflation calculators, $850 in 1908 (pretty close to 1903) would be equivalent to $21,176 in 2018. That first Ford was, comparatively, not exactly dirt cheap.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

For all the good, there were dark spots in Fords philosphy. Look at the Sociological department, who went to Ford worker homes to inspect cleanliness, marital status, alcohol consumption, etc. This was the price of the $5/day pay.

@ford Just as historic, he paid his employees an above average wage, with which they were then able to afford to buy one of the cars they were helping to produce thus helping their company & employer. What an idea! True symbiosis! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
