Hopefully, the Phillies are chipping in some.

Scott you get in where you fit in. If a church is spreading the gospel through sports and if its providing a reach through athletics then it should be commended, not criticized.
-
It’s good if the primary focus is the Bible. Is more time spent learning scripture + preaching than playing sports? Is that where the majority of the effort goes? Is that where most of the funding goes? Or has it taken a backseat to sports? My opinion is that it shouldn’t.

I believe a more appropriate method is to making the Bible the main focus - studying, learning, and preaching daily. And a few nights a week we get together + play basketball, softball on the weekends, whatever. God becomes the #1 priority + everything else follows.
-
But to be clear, I DO commend them for the effort to get the kids to focus on something other than what is going on in the streets. Giving them somewhere safe + keeping them out of trouble is very important. Not to mention the life skills that can be learned from sports.
