Yes, man did this. We are responsible for all of it.That means we are also responsible 2pass laws, fund and implement scientific solutions to fix it. Defunding environmental protections is contrary to fixing it.

This is old news! It’s already clean! It was caused by tropical storm Beryl which made landfall in the Dominican Republic about two weeks ago. Beryl caused lots of damage and left behind tons of garbage in the shorelines of the Dominican Republic.
-
Hundreds of volunteers and many organization worked together to clean it up: https://www.instagram.com/p/BleOZC2n1Gy/?hl=es&taken-by=alcaldiadn …

Only 12% of Plastic is even
#recyclable The other 88% of plastic goes 2 landfills taking more than 400 yrs 2 degrade & a lot of it finds its way into our oceans.#Plastic is made from crude oil & gas We have been tricked into believing it is recyclable

Plastic are flooding our oceans. By 2050 there will be more plastic than fish. The big pieces like bags/bottles kill wild animals like whales but it also breaks down into microplastics and those are already in the food chain especially oysters and clams. And it's getting worse!!

This is so terrible, we must work together to clean it up... we need to safe Mother Earth.

@realDonaldTrump I’m sure you don’t care because it is only the Dominican Republic, but you need to understand something. What we are doing to the world we live on is a travesty. We are killing it and your EPA is going to kill it faster all for the sake of the almighty dollar. - End of conversation

Thats nasty Dominicans, just a little bit of control of your wasting

You need to educate yourself, those plastics could actually be from the US, Canada, Europe or cruises sailing off coasts...
-
No. YOU need to educate yourself. The DR has been near-shore dumping garbage for a couple of years because of a political dispute over the landfills.https://www.telesurtv.net/english/news/Garbage-Crisis-in-Domincan-Republic-Continues-to-Pile-Up-20170411-0031.html …

Great imagery but no context. Where is the source of the trash? How long had that been a problem? All of that surely did not come from the DR. Come on
@CBSNews, you are a journalistic outfit, so how about an appropriate summary of the problem. -
They Don’t have the information as yet. Just the video for now

Thank you.
