That is so sad. They had no intention of reuniting those children because if they did they would have made sure each child had a paper trail with their parents name and so on and so forth

The court should jail Azar and Neilsen until all the families have been reunited. You would see how fast this would happen.

Why does the government have DNA samples of asylum seekers and their children?

They did such a lousy job tracking these detainees that they need DNA testing?!?!
-
No. It’s to stop human trafficking by proving the adults are actually related to the kids before releasing the kids to them.
-
Perhaps had DHS kept better records, fingerprints, photos etc. there would have been no need for DNA testing.
-
You’re missing the point. They’re testing to find criminals- human traffickers. People who have no papers to show relationto the kids, or have fake papers. This wasn’t implemented because the gov’t “lost track” of people. They were doing it the whole time.
-
Hmmmm.....no mention in the comments from the HHS secretary that it's being done to protect against human trafficking. But he DID say it was being used to "speed up matching parents and children."
-
It was in her press conference. You can YouTube it. The press didn’t cover it comprehensively.
-
That's interesting for a few reasons. 1) Alex Azar is "him." 2) The department hasn't yet put up his news conference on YouTube. You'll have to point me to a site. 3) why would he say DNA testing was being used to speed things up - if it was already happening across the board?
-
You’re right, I misspoke & added another response referencing HHS Nielsen’s press conference a few weeks ago. She talked about curbing smuggling. No one mentioned DNA testing before today because they didn’t want the smugglers to know they were doing it, so they could be caught.

Are you serious? We are that freaking disorganized? Is this something we "just" started doing? Do we have thousands of children without parents now, and this is a last resort? I think this whole matter is proof that our government doesn't protect human rights. What a mess!!!!!

Your story’s perspective was outrageous. Many children arrive at the border w traffickers, smugglers, not their parents, and without papers of any kind. There is no way to carefully reattach families w/out DNA. No incompetence about it.
