Depression is increasing among teenagers in the U.S. Studies show more than 3 million adolescents struggle with it. The stigmas surrounding mental health often prevent open discussions. Mark Strassmann spoke to one Georgia family about their journey out of darkness:pic.twitter.com/VSzVXU3CbJ

Don't put the world in their hands so early in life before they mature enough to handle all the information they see online. It's no wonder they are depressed. Now here is proof.

That isn’t proof. It’s commentary. Mental health issues are on the rise across the globe. Endless wars, decreasing wages, health care and housing costs ever increasing, less job opportunities and higher debt will make anyone sad. It’s our failed economic system, not the news

@NorahODonnell - you are so right "we just want our kids to be happy" and when they aren't, it's devastating and you feel helpless. But you don't have to stay that way - it's been a family journey for us all and we're even closer now bc of it. Thank you for telling our story!

Depression doesn't always come from fear and negativity. It also comes from anxiety and the pressures you put on yourself to "keep up" with society. People always ask what's wrong with you? How can you be sad? You should just ask, How can i help? Stop tying to understand how .

If I was a kid that had to listen to the way news is reported today, I would be depressed also.

The news is another symptom not the cause

The way "news" is presented could well be a contributing factor.

For sure. News used to be a money loser, as far as programming and stations were concerned. After 60Minutes “proved” you could make money on the news we see the CNN and the FOX, etc. to compete we see what we have now. Sensationalism and lies and an agenda. But that’s a symptom2

life was a whole lot simpler in the 70's yes I'm old school. But we lived in the best times. Far too much materialism these days.

This seems to directly correlate with teenage usage of social media and technology. This has to be included as part of the discussion to have any validity to describe what has changed in our Society. It cannot be simply that our children changed.

It really doesn't correlate - our son (featured in the story) isn't on social media at all. It has more to do with how we're wired. If you had a broken leg you wouldn't put blame on outside sources - you would get help which is what he did.

Not directed to your son in particular just the overall spread of the issue. Society has changed a great deal, social media and tech being a part. No offense intended.

Wonder why! Bombarding viewers with doomsday news 24/7/365 will depress anyone! The news medias gloom and doom reporting to score ratings is harming all Americans! Pseudo news stories to create hate and discontent! CBS is guilty of this just like the rest of the fake news media!
