If they get to choose to not join, then do they still get any of the union's negotiated benefits?

Yes. Michigan had this for a while. "A worker can choose not to pay them, but still reap the benefits of the unions bargaining and grievance process."

Free loading conservatives

Yeah those damn conservatives and their first amendment!
-
The term is “fair share dues” - to pay for only the benefits they get from union representation: getting the same benefits as those who pay for it is the definition of freeloading.
-
They could previously, essentially be forced to pay into unions who support politicians that vote directly against their own personal beliefs. Yes there will be freeloaders, but the solution to that problem isn't to violate people's first amendment rights.
-
Again; fair share dues are not used for political speech. This was a pretty basic concept, upheld 9-0 previously, including by Scalia! Also: if you have a problem with compelled speech, you should have no problem with football players opting out of the anthem.
-
It's basically impossible to decipher between fair share fees and normal union dues.

Call me crazy but unions destroyed the state i live in. Unions aren’t always helpful. Unions that cause a food service worker to make like 16$/hour aren’t useful. They’re part of the problem. And i shouldn’t have to pay fees to a union in order to have a job. They’re not my king.

Trump World. No organized labor. Keeping the masses in their class. Poor wages. No organization. And Trump brags about this.

Well if I’m not in a union I don’t see why I would have to pay anyway. This ruling seems logical, not a setback.

Another sick consequence of the GOP refusal to consider a vote for the Pres. Obama nominee. No more phony clams of senate comity when the
@SenateDems are in the majority. Public unions should refuse to represent grievances by free riders.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Basically, the mob can’t force you to pay for “protection” anymore...

This seems similar to how I don’t pay an accountant when I do my own taxes. Major setback for accountants but a huge win for me.
