So damned if you do, damned if you don't. Yes, let's waste taxpayer money prosecuting and sending this kid to juvvy in a state that's been in financial crisis for how long now?

It’s against the law in Illinois to record someone without their permission. One of the first thing I taught my students.

When a school wants to ruin a thirteen-year-old's future over a non-violent offense, it's time to evaluate who made that call and remove that person or group.

You should be allowed to record all conversations without knowledge as people tend to show their true faces when they think there are no witnesses. Recording other people's conversations no but your own, yes.

Schools aren’t democratic. Never were. Never should be. Though students don’t leave their rights at the door, schools model a family. In loco parentis. The felony thing is too much. Handle this at the school.

I agree with the child. He should not be discipline for his actions. What he did was not wrong and should come with no action. Kudos to the kid why to go to protect yourself. Adults do why can't our children for his own protection.
