Clearly the kid was not properly supervised. He is 5 yrs old and this is a gallery not a play ground. Good that mom takes her kid to culture. We all know those kids are quick, but supervise.

It was a community center not a museum.

132k piece of art? Not roped off? no signs? In a community center?? Um. No. Art is subjective anyway.
-
No not subjective art experts valued it at price so they insured it for that and the insurance company is trying to recover their money and they should
-
Then the insurance company should have had it properly secured. Art experts? Whatever.

free-range toddlers don't belong in museums or hardware stores (they're a magnet to the saw blades)

If it is a child’s area then yes, everything should be child proof, but there’s more to this. The parent and the gallery have a responsibility to teach the child not to touch. The parent has the responsibility to actually watch the child, which she was not.

It’s a community center, around the corner is a ping pong table, video arcade and TV area. This space is open and usually has local children’s artwork on the walls. Why isn’t the artwork secured is the question?
-
As a parent, we have a duty to WATCH & keep our kids safe. Ppl need to take responsibility & quit blaming other ppl. I see parents letting their kids run in restaurants while waitstaff is carrying large trays with Hot food. Do we put ropes around them as well? Watch your kids!

Ppl need to stop blaming other ppl for their negligence. Too many parents let their children run around in places of business as if they’re playgrounds. I see it all the time. My 1st thought is that kids is going to get hurt. Attend to your children. Yes, I’m a parent.
-
It doesn’t matter if it’s at a grocery store or mall park and museum at community center you’ve got to watch your kid, you have to teach them responsibility. If they break something you have to pay for it wake up millennials!
-
It simply amazes me how many parents do not pay attention to their kids (eyes glued to their cell phone). This parent if I’m not mistaken had the audacity to say her kid could’ve been hurt. D’uh yeah, that’s why you need to pay attention to your kids!

What nonsense. Yes, the kid should have had closer supervision but the museum must be paying huge amounts of money for insurance. God forbid an insurance company pay the claim on something they insure.
-
Just because they have insurance doesn't mean the insurance company can't try and recoup their money from the offenders, it happens all the time.
