let me help you. A baker cannot refuse to sell a gay couple cookies, cupcakes or pies. A baker CAN refuse to make a wedding cake for a same sex couple if it violates their deeply held religious beliefs

*a baker cannot refuse to sell a gay couple cookies, etc because they are gay. He can, however, cite other reasons as they apply to rules for all patrons (no shirt, no shoes, no service). Or he can refuse them service if they’re being assholes.

-
Which has always been the case of every private business ever - they can refuse service to anyone. It’s their business. And you’re absolutely correct how CBS botched this distinction

Phillips would've sold the gay couple a wedding cake. He just wouldn't CUSTOMIZE a cake for a gay wedding. They could've gone to any other bakery in the state for that. Instead they embarked on a mission to ruin Phillips and impoverish his family. They failed. Praise God.

I personally hope that the free market will never allow him to sell a cake again. Drive his business out of existence. He made a business decision that may be within his rights but he is NOT free from the consequences, i.e. other peoples' response to that choice.

I think he will have more business now

In other news, the SCOTUS ruled 7-2 in favor of a Colorado bakery holding that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission violated the free exercise clause when it showed elements of a clear and impermissible hostility toward the sincere religious beliefs of the baker.

Any business has the right to refuse to serve anyone, period. I'm sure their competitors will be happy to take the business.

Because it wasn’t about serving them. It was about commissioned artwork.

Its not even that, its about refusing for a specific ceremony that violates their believe. Gay couples were not refused because of what they do in the bedroom. Gay couples were never refused simply for being gay, but because the baker was asked to participate in the wedding.

DISCRIMINATION!!! Yes it is. Deal with it. DON’T FORCE YOUR RELIGOUS BELIEFS ON ME!!! Don’t force your nonreligious beliefs on the baker. Don’t like it? Don’t go there.
-
Discrimination my a$$. The owner never refused to do business with them. Only not to do a special order
-
What does discrimination mean?
