Now those 400 kids have lost complete respect for the authority of their principal and now think "why should I work hard in school if the principal -- who represents higher learning -- is serving me food?...I may as well quit school and flip hamburgers for a living".

As a 30+ yr educator and principal....your comment is one of the most ridiculous I’ve ever seen.
-
Mary Jo what would you have thought if you were a young impressionable student and the very people who were trying to tell you that you can achieve your dreams if you work hard were actually serving you food?
-
I take it as someone who steps up to plate when times are hard and needed. That’s someone I want in my corner and look up 2.
-
Erik that's fine if you're an adult but for young, impressionable kids it's basically saying "if you work hard you could be just like the principal of this school serving food to kids!" It doesn't work that way Erik! What would you have thought?
-
As a kid i look at it someone who cares and is a leader. Maybe just the way I was raised. Everyone’s different with their own views on things.
-
You're delusional if you thought that as a child when you were too young to understand what leadership was...you wanted to be a baseball player or a football player or a cop or a fire-fighter...your dream wasn't to become a server in a cafeteria/principal.
-
As someone who has worked with children for 15 years, I can tell you that they probably thought that she cared about them, and are happy about that. You're delusional if you think otherwise.

Don't the kids eat breakfast before they come to school?
-
Schools have been providing breakfast for years to underprivileged children. Breakfast is the most important meal. Some school districts pays for all children to eat breakfast no matter the income, no matter what grade they are in.

Betsy DeVos could learn a lot from this principal.

Why do so many kids have parents who fail to deliver the most basic responsibilities of parenting?
-
Having breakfast and lunch at school stretches the parent's income. It's hard when you have to chose between food, rent, electricity, gas for a car to go to work. Many patents work 2 or more jobs and still can't make ends meet.
