I guess everyone forgets the "Memorial" part of the holiday. Like it doesn't even matter any more. There's nothing happy about mourning the death of people who fought for this country. It's supposed to be a somber time of reflection, not an excuse for a car sale.

My great-grandpa served in WWI & my biological father served in Vietnam. I'm greatful to all who are currently serving & to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I would like to think that the BBQs are also celebrations of our freedom more so when surronded by friends & famly.

And I’m with the Veteran what’s happy about that word nothing it’s in memory of the dead some body lost a son daughter even father or mother for our freedom. No nothing says happy here, because it’s not.

That’s unfortunately true for many holidays including Christmas. The human condition.

Everyone of us fortunate enough to be a US citizen should pause for a moment on Memorial Day to remember their sacrifices

I lost my best friend Jack, a WWII Navy vet who was at Iwo Jima, on 5/22/18. He had no family and I'm not being allowed to pay for his cremation because we weren't related. This Memorial Day, he is in limbo.pic.twitter.com/KDtaMlHE0B

You can't pay and they won't pay? That is the most outrageous thing I have heard in a very, very long time. Is there a petition to sign? Someone to write to ? I am very sorry for your loss

Have spent last few days trying to locate will without success. Contacting lawyer tomorrow. We shared a house for 35 years. That should count for something.
