The Georgia House just passed legislation that would not only make it more difficult to vote, but also makes it a crime to give food or water to anyone standing in line to vote.
The idea that this should be a crime is completely outrageous.

This guy could be arrested under the bill that GOP lawmakers in the Georgia House just passed.

The people in line shared snacks and water. One guy is even had folks hold his spot so that he could go pick up pizzas for the group.
That’s a nice show of community solidarity.
But it shouldn’t be necessary so that citizens can cast a vote.

There's no "election security" argument for this folks. Just overcriminalization and trying to keep people from voting.

Seems also basically to outlaw poll greeting, as it expands the perimeter around polling places to 150 feet from the building. That means no real ability to hand out slate cards or give info to voters.

Much of that is in the existing law already.

From the wording it seems that if you are giving food or water without soliciting it should be fine. Though not sure I have ever seen anybody change their vote due to a cookie

I disagree. The statute forbids solicitation. But the giving of food or drinks is separately prohibited. And there is no need to add this prohibition to get at solicitation (which is already a crime under the existing law).

What is the constitutional claim against it?
