"It's not a question of if I will get sick but when I will get sick". Orphan wells, like those I saw today in Los Angeles, are a serious public health hazard. In many communities, kids have to play on fields surrounded by unplugged oil wells. Our children deserve better.

Secretary Haaland, far right, stands with youth organizers. They are surrounded by a fence with yellow caution tape.
Secretary Haaland, left, stands next to a local leader, right, who is pointing. In the background, palm trees and an excavator.

These wins are only the beginning! Our current demands: 🔘Continue to push for affordability measures like flexible payment plans and predictability in bills based on usage without seasonal spikes.

The last thing we need is more investments in to keep our lights on! The California PUC must stop this toxic cycle that only worsens extreme weather conditions, and invest in meaningful, solutions instead.

. & Darryl Molina Sarmiento w/ are right. Oil and gas drilling should NOT be in our communities! We need to make sure the setback rule applies to existing wells, not just new wells.

I stand with  & . The draft rule for oil & gas wells in CA communities is a good first step, but we need to go further. Until essential public health & safety protections have been achieved for CA, we must continue the fight.

Over 40% of CA's electricity still comes from fossil gas. The state must rapidly retire its gas fleet to meet climate goals & clean up dirty air. From a climate perspective, continued reliance on fossil fuels is its highest risk scenario:

Over and over, experts, agencies, & even utilities have reached the same conclusion: California does not need more dangerous gas. There are clean alternatives that will make the grid more reliable + clean + save ratepayers money:
