This is truly sad. Sidewalk Labs was proposing to fundamentally change the dilapidated Waterfront lands into something cutting-edge and innovative. We can argue over the semantics of why you may support it or not, but at the end of the day this is a loss for the city of Toronto.

While it’s too bad that something isn’t happening here, it’s good that this private sector surveillance experiment isn’t happening.

They'll create the smart city in NYC and other US cities and we'll get it in ten years when everything has been figured out and there is no risk remaining or work left to do. Then, we'll complain that US companies prefer to do all of the development in the US and not Canada.
