Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario's Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health, says a Sunnybrook Hospital patient is now a confirmed case of the new coronavirus, not a presumptive one. The 2nd presumed infected individual is his wife, who is in isolation at home and 'is well.'
From Dr. David Williams: 'The 2nd case also reminds us that not all people who contract coronavirus experience severe symptoms. As of today she has not been in need of the same acute hospital care required by her husband, who also remains stable.'
Williams says both people now diagnosed were wearing masks during the entire flight from China and drove home with someone also wearing a mask. Yaffe: 'I'm guessing that the person may not have felt that ill' when he landed. When he did start to feel unwell, he told his son.
De Villa says health officials are following up with people were within 'a certain distance' of the 2 passengers, so that they are aware of the exposure and what signs and symptoms they should be looking for. All other passengers should 'continue about their regular business.'
