Ah, yes. Jeritza Pell, classic, old school city clerk. Gruff manner, good heart. You didn’t want to piss her off, though. 😮

I covered a Long Beach aldermen meeting tonight for the first time in 28 years. The new chamber is nice, but I felt a little nostalgic for the Jeritza A. Pell City Hall Annex. It had character. I know @MelissaMScallan and @CAnitaLee1 feel the same. @sunherald #readlocal
Great news. And outstanding work to come, no doubt, from and this talented group of journalists.

South Florida residents will from this day forward measure time Before Ian and After Ian, as we do on the MS Coast: BK and AK, before and after #HurricaneKatrina. Monster storms both. Can't stop thinking about what they are going through. 😢 #Hurricanes #Ian

#Ian is going to forever alter how residents of Southwest Florida view hurricane risk. The level of devastation will require a lengthy and expensive rebuild that will last beyond a year in some communities. The power of Mother Nature is a constantly humbling thing to witness.

The latest #IanHurricane advisory says this: ". . . the NHC intensity forecast continues to call for an extremely dangerous hurricane landfall for southwestern Florida." Watching, waiting. No stopping this. #WX

The waiting game . . . The storm is not organized yet, so we don't know with any certainty where it's going. Potentially the Gulf, where it could grow into a monster. Watching this one from Texas to Florida.

The first Jackson home to take on water in the 2022 Pearl River flood was also the first structure to see water 43 years ago when the river crested at 43 feet, in the historic 1979 Easter flood disaster, according to the Hinds county EOC. The home is on Rollingwood Drive.

Thinking of folks in Jackson as the Pearl River rises. Who remembers the great Easter flood of '79? Will never forget the sight of Parchman inmates bagging the levees under flood lights. It didn't work. Photos from

The settlement between State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. and the sisters, Cori and Keri Rigsby, also ends a lawsuit State Farm filed against them, alleging breach of their employment contracts, etc, for taking the insurer's records while they were adjusting Katrina claims.

I know this is a v. serious situation. On the other hand, Mama Nina (me 😬) is wondering if remembered his sunscreen. Either way, the story’s going to be a Wednesday #mustread.

The Pink House is still open, while some clinics around the country have stopped performing abortions almost immediately (or stopped weeks ago in anticipation of this day). The trigger ban takes effect 10 days after the AG determines Roe has been overturned.
