Overwhelmed. People are going to suffer tonight, and for a long time, as superpowers use their land and lives as chess pieces to advance state power. Imperialism is an old sin with the same old consequences, no matter how much our planet ages.

Yo I just wanna say, what white people will never experience is being a debated demographic in a presidential debate. Nobody debates white people and how to control white people or whether or not white people deserve rights!!! This is SO uncomfortable!

Hello from a girl who just picked her mom up from union station after two years of not seeing her and did not expect the deep guttural cry that just came out of my body. If you were in Union Station and heard a girl crying everything’s fine sorry

It’s the fact that we woke up to no consequences. That my peers have faced more consequences for protesting. That Kaepernick lost his career for participating in peaceful discourse. I do not have the intellectual space or emotional space for whiteness today. I just don’t.

The governor of Alabama is a woman. A woman will be signing a bill into law that will make the status of Roe v Wade more vulnerable than ever. Just a reminder that we really do have to evaluate our representatives on who and what they advocate for, not just who they are.

So if workers are being forced to take unpaid leave, we need a rent freeze. ASAP. Not enough to halt evictions if, after it lifts, folks will be facing eviction or other actions from unpaid rent.

Day one of freshman year of high school, 2005, I entered 9th grade homeroom with 39 other children and sat on the floor. On day two, my friend and I shared a seat. And by day 5, we both stopped going to school altogether. No one noticed until January.

When the 🐐 LPW called and said we were a go, life was doing me in. Loss, exhaustion, all that. But the chance to tell the story of how a brilliant black girl gets her body back from a world that asks for too much of it felt like a chance to tell a lot of our stories at once. 🙏🏾

My grandma died yesterday morning. Grief is exhausting, and losing a matriarch is hard to navigate, but when you lose a matriarch you gain an ancestor so I'm looking forward to getting to know her this way. Rest in peace to the original baddie, the fearless rock. Forward.

One important thing the last decade of dating has taught me is that a cis man pretending to be unimpressed with my work/achievements is a big red flag. Women, this summer, please avoid giving men who are too cool to geek out on you the time of day.

The 36th street stop was my train station for almost three years. I took it every morning during rush hour. It services hundreds of people every hour. There is significant police presence in that area every day, especially during rush hour, usually to catch fair evaders.

Watching ppl like Rep. Porter, Rep. Pressley, Rep. Underwood, and Sen. Warren work is the thing that keeps me in politics b/c they are my reminder that there are folks out there who fought to take power in order to look out for the rest of us and get real shit done in our name.

the obvious solution to many coronavirus related problems is “give people money to stay home” but “give people money” is actually the solution to many social problems, period.

It should concern you that that police presence results in fines, fees and removals of/for hundreds of commuters every day, but that that police presence could not prevent, anticipate or efficiently respond to a mass shooting during rush hour.

I'm very heartened to see the timeline standing in solidarity with Palestine, so loudly. As a black jew, it's been lonely and violently uncomfortable to try and have discussions about Zionism and settler colonialism in Jerusalem. Stand w/ Palestine because you must.

And lastly I’m deeply disturbed by the suggestion that sexual assault survivors are not able to properly discern healthy behaviors from predatory behaviors after an assault. We are not hyper sensitive, we are hyper aware, and the ability to see a predator coming is a super power

Ms. Avant-garde has had me in my feelings all morning, b/c to know how black kids are treated in our education system, how they are targeted by our carceral system -- when we get to see a sliver of that innate genius break through unmitigated, it's easy to see why we're hunted

You know when I became an abolitionist? 4 yrs ago I was in France and at a dinner with Dr. Davis and we were having a pretty casual discussion when I asked her what made her become a vegetarian? "Well I was in prison, and they were trying to kill me by poisoning the meat."

From campaign staff to community organizers, Black women are doing everything they can to fight for a democracy that works better for every single one of us. We may choose different paths, but the goal is the same. There is no room for misogynoir in this movement.

there is something about the urgency and futility of trying to save someone’s life before a federal execution that makes me sick to my soul, makes me feel like I can’t breathe. Every human being deserves redemption and the state is not God.

Abortions aren’t elected procedures and can’t always be postponed. This is honestly one of my biggest fears coming true, terrified by the idea of state by state shut down of abortion rights by unfairly categorizing abortions as elected/non-essential procedures

Idk what to tell the girlies about pop poetry but what I can say is that Warsan Shire is an excellent poet and not all the famous poets can say that! The Rupi discourse has been overdone; talk about Warsan’s consistent, ostentatious excellence instead, I would like that

I picked my fighter. Her name is Elizabeth Warren. We lost. I cried. I’m voting for Joe Biden, because it’s a survival vote. My people always have to pick survival to make it to a tomorrow where we can move from radical vision and not fear. Do not fuck w/ my tomorrow!!!

Leaning into the idea that Nikki Haley’s contrition is real or authentic is actually very bad. We all swore we wouldn’t let republican enablers remake themselves after Trump was ousted, and yet the reconciliation campaign is trending on Twitter

My guiding principle: you are not an exception nor are you exceptional. You are blood and guts and glory. You will fail, you will have to edit yourself, you will have to humble yourself, and along the way, you will have to make space for others. A word if you needed to hear it.

What's hurting me the most about Toni's passing is that she has died during the resurgence of white nationalism -- something she survived, warned us about, fought against, lived in spite of -- and did not get to live to see it reach its final form, and, inevitably, combust.

Can’t help but think that this is where the inherent contradictions of the carceral system becomes even more dangerous: prisons are a breeding ground for white supremacist extremism. If we jail every participant of last week’s coup, what do you think happens when they get there?
