Stephanie from Ansonia shares that, last winter, she kept her house at 61° and it cost $460+ each month. She/her daughter have asthma, which is made worse by excess heat and cold. Very worried about this winter, and very grateful for the help provided by TEAM

Veronica & James are on fixed income and are worried about rising prices. James recently had a stroke and they keep their heat very low at home in order to stretch their heating budget.

Kristina, from Oxford, shares that she/her husband both work and heavily rely on LIHEAP for oil to heat their home. Because of reduced benefits this year, they’re already through their benefit, and not sure how they will make it through the winter.

Now we are hearing from residents: Ruth is in her 70s & on social security but continues to work in the health care field in order to pay her energy bill & keep her grandchildren safe.

Today for #HispanicHeritageMonth we recognize Junior Mendez, a 14-year employee at ! Junior is CAAWC's Energy Program Manager and is of Dominican descent. We thank Junior for his dedication to connecting western Connecticut residents to important Community Action programs!

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program is administered by in partnership with the state's nine Community Action Agencies. It was great to have DSS Commissioner Deidre Gifford in attendance for today's #LIHEAP announcement along with some of our Community Action leaders!
