For those who will inevitably use this story as an antivax story it's not, it's a story of how drug regulation isn't something to piss about with to get your miracle cure approved.https://twitter.com/ShaunLintern/status/966955173900939264 …

Total lack of informed consent resulting in vaccine damage that nobody wants to acknowledge or learn from? Yes, this will grab my attention. And no doubt many others. Would prefer not to be referred to as an 'anti-vaxxer' though - not unlike the poor staff involved, I'm sure.
Vaccines are proven to save millions of lives. Pandemrix was not a normal vaccine but rushed into use and not properly tested. All the staff I spoke to are completely pro-vaccination and were keen to make that point.
By definition, anyone who suffers damage from a non-compulsory vaccine started out in favour of it. If this case does nothing but help avoid compulsion, I'll be happy. Ideally, we'll get full information in order to be able to genuinely consent. (Or not). https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/322242/response/796748/attach/3/FOI%2016%20180%20Reply.pdf?cookie_passthrough=1 …
But thing is this was a bit of a compulsory non-compulsory vaccine. Even this year there were suggestions that not having flu vaccine would be in breach of GMC good doctor guidance by some higher ups in NHS. That year was an especially hard push. Glad I declined.
You can either say no without coercion, or you can't - I picked up on that suggestion too. I find discussion of compulsion to be alarming tbh & arguably unlawful. Every HCP understands the legal implications of pressurising someone into consenting, so why is it done to them?
