Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

And if it wasn't provided that would have counted against her. Which is what trainees were concerned about, damned if they do, damned if they don't

To be honest, I have less problem with what the tribunal has done here than what the CPS, court and then subsequently the GMC have.

Currently watching a friend's Fb timeline in trepidation. Genodiverse toddler bluelighted in with 41C temperature, possible febrile convulsions, vomiting, dehydration, rash, laboured breathing & desats. A&E have requested paed consult. Paeds have refused. A&E are re-requesting...

On occasion, when I’ve been mucked about with scary cases, getting switchboard to call the duty consultant direct has worked. Or the crash team. “We prefer to be fast bleeped *before* the patient is past helping” A&E sisters used to bypass obstructive drs at times.

Would much, much, much rather be challenged, questioned, bypassed, anything than miss a sick kid. By anyone - colleagues, patient, parent. It’s a team, no?

Something that varies so much ward by ward: Oncology, neonatal and PICU staff had absolutely no hesitation in calling if not being listened to. Often backed me as v junior SHO if senior not responding.

I also think the ‘consultant of the week’ scheme has not helped. Before then consultants saw patients are ‘their patients’, knew them well and rushed to see them. With ‘consultant of the week’ can mean child not well known and no-one takes responsibility.

Agree: sometimes child can represent multiple times over a few weeks but be seen by different consultant each time . Loss of continuity from juniors as constantly changing shifts too.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of the impact of ‘consultant of the week’ on child patients.

Or how many parents end up with depressions etc due to what these doctors/consultants do esp after the trust legal teams get involved, and how much that costs the NHS and Industry through lost days/weeks/months of sick leave
