Been scratching my head on this doc, because there are multiple mentions of bloods at various times in the judgement. Seems she had results at the start from somewhere? John, it depends on the hospital. Most places have blood gas machine in A&E and ITU, the labs can run them as well. The sample needs to be run quickly after taking it as if it clots the results aren't accurate.

Right, thank you. So although we don't know what was on that particular unit, it's possible they had a machine nearby for those gas tests. I'm wading well out of my depth here in an attempt to understand this case!

An ABG isn't a " routine " blood test. You would only do it if you had clinical concerns. It only takes a few minutes to run it through the machine and get a print out but it depends where the machine is and if there is someone trained to use it!
