But sometimes we don't learn. Don't tell me that every medic on this thread would be happy to be treated by ANY Consultant in their Hospital? We know the Dr's that get things wrong on a regular basis but is anything done about it?

That’s entering a tricky area, that happens outside medicine too. How does one identify and manage incompetence? Can it be defined, or is it “I know it when I see it”? I am grateful for these conversations to help clarify this.

I think what families find most distressing is when incompetence is acknowledged but not addressed. Incompetence can come from misplaced confidence & those personalities can also bully, up & down the hierarchy so their repeated poor care is known but not challenged

Yes I’ve seen that, but how can it be addressed & changed?I think perhaps medics need to be as vocal about colleagues who are dangerous as they are about those they believe are victims of the system. I don’t think they ever will be, for all sorts of reasons.

I’m curious to know why there was so much passion from medics about Barba-Gawa but little or nothing about the nurse involved.

Media coverage different. Many docs unhappy with
@gmcuk . Docs can see consequences of letting BW ruling go unchallenged. Lots. Anyway it's not just docs. Many see the problem.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

I don't agree about the media coverage, it seems like that's been generated by the actions of the most vocal doctors.
