I worked for the NHS for over 20yrs, I have first hand knowledge of the points you are making and know how very difficult it is. Spend a week with me on the Helpline I am part of and see the other side. Both sides suffer.

Then let’s share and stop people suffering. Too many physicians, patients, and families are suffering and dying for lack of an honest conversation. I’d love to spend time on the hotline.

I really hope this is a watershed moment for more understanding on both sides. Real candour but also understanding of human factors/ organisational failure. Both sides want better, safer care to protect both patients and staff.

Me too! Many people have waited years for a moment of this sort to arrive. The conversation finally has real meaning and is being taken seriously, rather than being dismissed with platitudes. We all have a responsibility to ensure the opportunity to improve things isn't lost now.

It would be physically & intellectually impossible for one pilot to fly 2 planes It is physically possible for a paediatric registrar to care for 2 very ill children simultaneously but it is an intellectual impossibility & dangerous as was demonstrated in this tragic case

It's also physically possible to be grossly negligent in your personal actions, regardless of the shortcomings of the environment you've been placed in. Let's not forget none of have that transcript yet, before we start deciding what this case does or doesn't demonstrate.

Everybody has suddenly seemed very keen on healthcare/aviation comparisons of late (following a startling change of heart recently) so how does that work here? If we tolerated every pilot having such day every 10 years as 'understandable', how many plane crashes would there be?

If BawaGarba only had one little person to concentrate on that day the care would’ve been different. Rather than her being a pilot it was more like running air traffic control but without all the sophisticated technology appraising of the whole system

Basic Q: Are stats likely to exist to show what the actual caseload for Dr BG and Nurse A was? Eg I see in the Appeal summary it says “a 15 bed/ chair unit”. How many patients went through that unit in the shift? How many were Dr BG and Nurse A also responsible for, elsewhere?

Good question. I was about to make the point (not for the first time) that without the transcript, we none of us know the full facts here.
