Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

John Clarke Retweeted Dr Phil Hammond

THREAD Confirmation bias? Or a quirk of Twitter? You decide... Yesterday, at 11.11pm, Dr Phil Hammond sent out this tweet in all good faith. He had *accurately* quoted from a misworded GMC release. #BawaGarbahttps://twitter.com/drphilhammond/status/959563788268777472 …

      John Clarke added,

      Dr Phil HammondVerified account @drphilhammond
Email from GMC chair Terence Stephenson to doctors: 'The High Court concluded that allowing a doctor to continue to practise, with a conviction of gross negligence manslaughter, is highly unlikely to damage the public's trust in the profession.' So why strike off Dr #BawaGarba ?

      John Clarke Retweeted Ben Pennington

Just 5 minutes later, at 11:11pm, Ben Pennington, a Media Relations Manager with GMC promptly replies to Dr Hammond, pointing out that there was a critical wording error in the release and steering him to an updated version.https://twitter.com/westcliffben/status/959565005929709568 …

Phil - thanks for highlighting our typo. We meant 'highly likely'. Full version on our blog https://gmcuk.wordpress.com/2018/02/02/faqs-outcome-of-high-court-appeal-dr-bawa-garba-case …

John Clarke Retweeted Dr Phil Hammond

Registered at the same time as Ben's tweet - 11:11pm, Dr Hammond then sends out an immediate clarification, having been made aware of the error. Why do I mention all this?https://twitter.com/drphilhammond/status/959564898442280960 …

Ah. It appears that the chair of the GMC - or a member of his team - made a rudimentary error under enormous pressure, substituting the word 'unlikely' for 'likely' when rushing out a panicked email on a Friday evening. Let's learn lessons without blaming anyone https://twitter.com/drphilhammond/status/959563788268777472 …

Well, now go and look at how many clinicians chose to RT Dr Hammond's original tweet in the 24hrs since, but NOT RT either of the subsequent clarifications. I stopped looking once I hit double figures...

First wrong message has 49 RTs. The clarification from Dr Hammond has >200 RTs. Seems likely to me that those who re-tweeted the wrong message also re-tweeted the clarification?

I went through each person's timeline to ensure they hadn't RTd either clarification or offered clarification of their own. Some did, many didn't.https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/959927313583476736 …

The followers of those clinicians who only RT'd the first one, may get the (wrong) message from just that one source, was my thinking. But perhaps more worrying is that some clinicians only seemed to pick up the first message, not the correction...no?

Haha! Yes... I gave up once I was comfortably into double figures too. I originally intended to tweet the 'culprits' directly and ask them to correct the mistake, but there were too many of them
