Sometimes, if you make a mistake, patients can see how much you are hurt by it and they are then very forgiving.

I'd have loved for us to have been given that choice. We'd have forgiven. No question - we're all human. There would've been no complaint, no lawyers, no police and treatment to correct life-threatening error would've been prompt. Alas, it was covered up.

Cover ups will now start immediately. If harm or death occurred I or a Colleague may end up in Court, so why not turn a blind eye or anonymise everything so much that no learning for systems improvement can happen?

Did you seriously just write that? You have 10,000 followers who listen to what you have to say. Their actions may be guided by your words. I expect more of you Gordon. Stop it. That doesn't help

That is a real concern Be open and honest = made a scapegoat Today meeting Trust QC he asked me something I didn't know - so I went back to labs + found an error that only I saw + that will affect case He now knows Staying quiet would have been so much easier Some will now

Who has the power to do this scapegoating, if it also applies to you as a consultant? And how do we take it back from them? Docs have showed this week you have enormous strength in numbers, so why has that power not been utilised to stop the practice, instead of threaten candour?

Doctors aren’t in charge. They are responsible but not in charge...

But what do they all do when somebody is being scapegoated? Stay silent and cover their own backs? There's plenty of you speaking out now and it's making a difference on a much bigger stage.

That’s like asking what people in any workplace do over insidious bullying. The NHS employs some very clever people. Who can say or do all sorts of things and dress it up as reasonable

Oh you don't have to tell me that. I've been sucking that up for 7 years of my life now. I know all about it. But I also know they're not untouchable. Even for the likes of me. There has to be a way to redress this balance, surely? It's f***ing dangerous!

I’m too low down the food chain to know. Anonymity is often best
