As I read it, while the views can be markedly different, there is a desire for the same end goal: safety in the provision of health services for patients, families and staff. People approach that with different perspectives that we can learn from even if we don't agree.

Indeed. I worry about people “taking sides” in a debate where actually we all want the same thing... It’s all very very distressing, in a whole range of ways.

Francis warned of a 'tsunami of anger' headed for the NHS in his Mid Staffs report. Yet his recommendations for a single regulator and an individual statutory duty of candour were ignored. I think a revisit of those recommendations would be timely... before the wave hits.
