Niggling thought of the day:
Why are doctors saying that this week GMC made patients less safe?
Why were patients still safe when #BawaGarba got convicted of gross negligent manslaughter, but we're not now she's been struck off?
Does loss of career hold more fear than conviction?

Fear of admitting mistakes. People leaving the profession because of short-staffing aggravating the situation further as they are unwilling to take the risk of speaking up or shouldering the blame. Real criminals such as Paterson going unchecked for years.

I appreciate all of that. My confusion comes from the timing. Why is the extreme reaction happening now? Where was this uproar after the conviction? Or the failed appeal? I just find it odd.

I think it's more just a case of how doctors get their news - original conviction wasn't broadcast widely or loudly, but GMC decision has been reported in BMJ etc.

Well there was this (poor) piece in BMJ back in 2017. I haven't gone searching further back, but this should have alerted more than enough people sooner. So I'm still perplexed by the timing of reaction tbh.https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/956889953031598080 …

I only joined twitter when vindicated by my ET "win". Thought about crowdfunding appeal. Realised had no chance, there are too many of us victimised whistleblowers. Learned a lot from threads on WB, GMC, BMA etc that most docs aren't aware of as not involved.

Is there anything in particular that jumps out at you which most docs would be unaware of? Interested in your perspective.

Too much to cover! HR procedures, bullying, whistleblowing, how GMC "works", how despite claims the unions, colleges and defence unions do not support you, interrelationships between organisations and govt, and why keeping quiet is not in patients' interest.

I see what you mean. That's quite the list. I'd ask you to narrow it down to the critical ones ordinarily, but nothing there sounds unimportant to me.
