When I was young, my mum talked about how “doctors close ranks and never criticise each other”. This phrase has always stuck with me... we must try to get the balance right in not undermining colleagues, but being honest with everyone if things go wrong.

Your mum was wise. I don't want anyone undermining for no reason. That doesn't help a single patient. But where their actions undermine themselves, I want it honestly dealt with honestly in a way that doesn't endanger patients. Training where poss, compassionate removal where not
