Niggling thought of the day:
Why are doctors saying that this week GMC made patients less safe?
Why were patients still safe when #BawaGarba got convicted of gross negligent manslaughter, but we're not now she's been struck off?
Does loss of career hold more fear than conviction?

I think there’s a lot of outrage and questions as to why the GMC disregarded the opinion of its own specialist panel (MPTS) that found
#bawagarba should continue to practice and went to court to have her struck off1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

The MPTS took into account the motivating factors of that day (no consultant, first day back from 14 months Mat leave, no second Reg, covering 4 floors, carrying crash bleep, multiple emergencies) and found they reduced her responsibility and she was safe to return to practice

The GMC disregarded this, and then appealed to the court to have her struck off anyway. These mitigating factors were not allowed to be presented to the jury

Unpopular, I realise, but I think GMC were right to appeal the decision tbh, based upon the nature of the conviction & the public confidence argument. What I think is wrong is the fact that system issues (and the consultant!) weren't brought into the court proceedings.
