I don't think that they're saying they'll cover up, I see that they're saying they won't work in those conditions any more where senior directors take no acccountability

Depends who you speak to, I suspect? But duty of candour is 'now dead', according to some. I guess you can read into that a number of ways.https://twitter.com/djnicholl/status/956578132387131392 …

I don't think someone can choose to ignore duty of candour, owning up to errors is always better than cover up. Everyone should in all walks of life, people aren't perfect and make mistakes. Effective org systems mitigate impact of errors which is why CEOs are accountable

I agree with you, but if we're being real Cathy, I think plenty choose to ignore the duty of candour all the time. Nobody will say so, of course, (unless they're daft), but it's happening.
#bawagarba is what happens when patients get sick of being lied to. Likely more to come. -
There will be no clinical staff soon. Nobody is going to want to work in the conditions currently being experienced. People function on basic instincts under such pressure. I wouldn't.
-
No, nor me. Don't think I'd last 5 mins anyway - too honest for how things work currently. This is a reaction, imho. A push-back from patients who know the true cost that a lack of candour brings. Been coming a while, as Francis warned. Fix candour, prosecutions will drop, imho.
-
But I suspect that poor attention to duty of candour is more prevalent in trusts where the leadership at board level is poor, staff aren’t supported and management block expressions of concern. It’s principally an organisational cultural thing.
-
I wouldn't disagree with that. I'm sure there must be good, honest leaders out there. But on current experience, they don't appear to be common. Cover up seems to have been the widespread default option for some time, based upon any serious cases I've encountered.
