you'd be welcome to bring a recording device into any consultation with me David. I encourage people to write things down and bring friends/relatives

i would welcome recording devices in consultations so long as both sides knew about them and both sides had copies and preferably some kind of "edit protect" software so neither side could artfully edit out content. Bring it on. Also patient held electronic records. Why not?

I’d be happy for any patient to see anything I write about them

How about patient’s family when you’ve had a conversation with them about the patient?

Depends what they do/don’t want to know. If they’ve given consent for the conversation they can know/not know what was said. Their illness, their call.

What about this example; patient was reportedly left traumaticised, unable to work (as a nurse) on learning that (failed) liver transplant had been branded with surgeon’s initials 4-days prior. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-42663518 … Would it have been ethical, compassionate, to withhold info.?

No. Duty of candour to tell her something criminal (assault) had happened to her.

This is exactly what I'd have said too, Kate. I only wish that duty was an individual statutory one, and not just a professional one with no standing in law.

There should be fines and legal support to bring these issues to court.

What case would you have brought to court if you could? Trying to imagine how that would work. Gov has already chosen to ignore the Francis recommendation, so what's your thinking?
