Prosecute them with what, I wonder? The key to our right to record seems to be based on the fact that it's our data under discussion during consultations. And nobody can prevent us from recording our own data. Outside of that confine, I'm less sure on the situation though.

I do not understand why at the end of every consultation a copy of it doesn’t go into the notes & a copy to patient. Protects everybody.

I sense a growing support for that idea on both sides. Currently, medical records are at the heart of what is deemed to be the truth. But when one side only holds them, that 'truth' has a horribly frequent habit of changing. I already record every one, so I'm in!

Many communication issues would be resolved, IMO, if people had the opportunity to play what was said, rather than rely on the recollection of what they felt.

100% with you. I started recording for accuracy of records tbh, but I quickly realised how valuable it was to be able to listen back to consultations after the event. It's a lot less work than taking extensive contemporaneous notes & harder to dispute. Protects all parties.

I truly do not understand the defensiveness. It's a straight record. Objecting raises a whole raft of questions that are more damaging than the actual recording!

A lot of professionals are totally paranoid that we will edit recordings or play them out of context, publish them & mistrepresent causing damage to their reputations. Overestimates my technical skill & assumes pts are dishonest & will break law

of what? Either they have the conviction of their competence or they don't. The world is not full of nasty patients seeking to destroy professionals for goodness sake. It's in everyone's interests to have an open and shared record.

The fact that your recordings haven't provoked a sacking, or at least a resignation is an affront to justice Allyn. Aside from any criminal aspect. But imagine if all those in our position had tapes like yours. Now *that* would be hard to ignore.

I have to say I have not hesitated in the historic past to record mtgs with ppl I had previously had problems with. The fact that one of them asked if I was recording before she wld start the mtg made me even more determined. She thought she cld get away w/behaving badly

I have insisted on having full recordings or witnesses for meetings with families who I know full well have made all manner of allegations against various (nice, decent) colleagues. It makes sense and so long as they consent to recording - why not?

In the context of a complaints meeting i think it is reasonable but personally i dont think audio or video recordings of patients private data should be compulsory and I think there are different issues to patients recording their own consultations for personal/domestic purposes

Everyone doesn't have to consent, strictly speaking. Only the patient. David & I touched on this before:https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/948740907368632320 …

What's courteous and what's legal may vary here. Although I can't help mention that the point you make re one party editing for their own ends without the other being able to guard against it, is exactly the position every patient currently faces with traditional medical records.

Did you not know that it is acceptable practice to conspire to delete recorded evidence of failings and attempt to delete a families recording. This is accepted practice in the NHS with no accountability and every NHS staff who knows about it is happy it goes on.

It was quite amusing - I got this email from the complaints manager basically telling me I was delusional & of course they cldnt remotely delete but he'd check with IT. Then I got email saying IT said actually they can remotely delete so if I want to stick to hotmail thats fine
