Harold Shipman devoted his whole working life to the profession too. That's all I'm saying...

Woaaaaaah! Too far. Too far.

My tweet? Perhaps? You clearly think so. But what is David actually calling for here? What is allowed to be said and what is off limits?
-
He seems unhappy, as I am, of the way social media can be used to name and shame I've worked decades for patients. I was named and shamed, on local radio, before social media existed, I was called "a killer". A lady mistook me for someone else but I have never had comeback.
-
Oh dear God! That's awful. I'm so sorry to hear that. Mistaken identity too? I don't even know what to say. I've only allowed publishers & their lawyers to state the name in our case so far. To be sure it could be justified. I guess not all news outlets have the same standards?!
-
Even when you're named in error, and podcast of show goes on local radio website, you've to suck it up and shut up or you're the evil doctor going after the grieving widow, who made the mistake, opening up her old wounds. Be VERY careful who you accuse on social media.
-
I would personally only ever accuse those I have absolute evidence against. Not sure what others do
-
I've been extremely careful tbh. Apart from where it appears in news articles, I don't think I've even mentioned the trust on twitter and definitely not the names involved. But it's not because defamation would concern me. Just affecting fair trial conditions.
-
That makes sense John. I have heard the whole defamation and harassment ones many times now. Accused of libel by Twitter a few days back. I just get on with my day to be honest.

So the whole medical regulation apparatus didn't spot him then? Well that's reassuring. Thanks for that Wayne. You learn something new every day.

It is not so much about shaming professionals for errors, the bigger crime is covering up bad stuff and not learning lessons.
-
Agreed. Back to those cover ups. https://twitter.com/GrumpyOldDoc/status/938190959308886016 … What provokes people to name and shame? A lack of other options, perhaps?
