Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

1/2 Doctors do have a professional obligation Umesh, you're right. But that has no standing in law & as such is ignored by lawyers. Hence why Francis recommended the individual statutory dity of candour when the professional duty already existed.https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/937770037074591745 …

2/2 >>But that said, we all recognise the suffering of whistleblowers in the NHS & understand the fear instilled in other staff is v real, when they see the diabolical, career-ending treatment meted out to those who dare to be honest. Radical change is needed somewhere.

Yes I have had an odd situation where PALS asked non-treating drs to meet us, but they both refused to come.

Being a plebiscite, GMC haven't even looked at this case. They said PHSO had to investigate + refer drs.

I don't understand that. Why do the PHSO have to refer the doctors to the GMC? You're allowed to submit a complaint directly to them too, surely?

"We will only investigate and take action when we have a serious concern about a doctor’s behaviour, health or performance and we think the doctor could harm other patients or public confidence in the medical profession." Hmmm. Bit 'loose', that definitionhttps://www.gmc-uk.org/concerns/30413.asp …

True regulation must take place in the work-place. Most doctors need support help to do a good job and good culture good team to provide the best care and few must be dismissed and referred to the regulator. Current regulation needs #Transformation.

I agree. In any regulated environment, the support has to be in place locally for compliance to be ensured on a daily basis. Only when that fails should regulators become 'active' as a safety net. But we both know we're some way from that reality. Transformation indeed.

You're in a position to know more than I do Umesh, so I can only hope you're right. I like to see tangible results (like your 90% reduction in or harm stat) before I assume anything's changed. Based upon non-scientific, anecdotal twitter experience, it hasn't hit the ground yet.
