Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

Amazing to note the difference in safety records between healthcare, where doctors don't die alongside their patients; https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/941246786315964416 … ..and aviation, where pilots may well die alongside their passengers.https://twitter.com/jbarro/status/947868718020939776 …

There were zero passenger fatalities from commercial passenger jet crashes, anywhere in the world, in 2017. http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/air-safety-2017-best-year-safest-airline-passengers-worldwide-to70-civil-aviation-review-a8130796.html …

I don’t think that’s a fair comparison to make. Healthcare isn’t my forte now, but @MartinBromiley has made significant changes and had influence in the way the safety culture in healthcare has changed over the years.

I've no doubt Martin will have brought many positive changes to the debate. But I think the elephant in the room here is candour. What pilot would be foolish enough to cover up a potentially fatal error? The personal consequence is only too apparent. Opposite true for clinicians.

It's also because healthcare isn't like flying a plane despite the fact we are endlessly told it is.

In a plane pilot dies and he is in charge. In #healthcare #patient dies and everyone else is supposed to be in charge and no one really is! #CheekyUmesh

But why should #patients suffer? Where is the doctots or clinical staff #leadership and responsibility to prevent harm? Whose job is it? If #Wigan can reduce harm by 90% anyone can! #patientsafety #quality important

Any organization facing finance crisis will reduce staff.

That's true. But most organisations just lose profit when they reduce staff, rather than leaving a trail of bodies in the wake of their decision.

The sad reality is if there is no #accountability and bullying #coverup goes on. But most of what goes on in #NHS is very good and let us not forget it. Each year 360 Million patients are seen in #NHS by 1.3 Million wonderful staff. But yes, we got to get rest of it is right.
