I don't think I gave as much thought to that word when choosing it, as you now are in analysing it, if I'm honest Bill. I was referencing the 'just culture' aspect. Has to be just for all parties, was the point I was trying to make.

sorry - I am a bit of pedant about the use of words. They mean different things to different people & context is vital. Of course we are all looking for a good care outcomes within available resources, equal for all.

No worries. When dealing with the medical world, it pays to pay attention to the specific use of language, I've found. My bad. In the meantime, this is for you... :)https://twitter.com/C7RKY/status/947873491059118080 …

When attending workshops & public meetings I often play the innocent and ask for meanings of words & jargon. it is a bit cruel, i know but...hey ho!

I do it all the time and always have. Surprising how variable intention/perception is even within single profession groups

Amazing, isn't it? I've managed to cause havoc for most of my life in almost any environment with just one word: Why?

I was always taken aback by how many goldfish impressions it was able to provoke. :)

That's because many people adopt ideas without thinking through a justification. "Why?" makes them uncomfortable as they don't have a ready answer

Totally agree Cathy. What I found most often followed a period of dumbfounded silence were the mumbled words: 'Because that's how we've always done it.' Many are embarrassed because they never thought to ask why themselves.
