Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

It's also because healthcare isn't like flying a plane despite the fact we are endlessly told it is.

And please remember that safety is relative, not absolute. Risk can be reduced, sure, but aircraft still crash. Problems will not “never happen again” in healthcare.

Have come to conclusion that the parallels with aviation are unhelpful. Different work; different culture

Health not being like flying a plane mostly Ken. Different work, very different workforce, different culture, different risk, lack of safety infrastructure. etc

Planes don't fly unprofitable routes and they don't have mandated activity (it's not unsafe to turn passengers away). If we made money like airlines, we could also have 2 pilots per plane.

Comparison is valid if every flight was to an unknown airport in uncertain weather, in a strange plane.

Totally disagree. It’s about promotion of a just culture that embraces mistakes as an opportunity to learn. We are all human, we make mistakes. Being open and honest about these allows the organisation to learn.

Achieving a 'just' outcome is only possible with absolute candour, imho. Something the medical world is a million miles away from currently. Addressing that will be key, otherwise blame will likely persist.https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/937068760502079488 …

I don't think I gave as much thought to that word when choosing it, as you now are in analysing it, if I'm honest Bill. I was referencing the 'just culture' aspect. Has to be just for all parties, was the point I was trying to make.

sorry - I am a bit of pedant about the use of words. They mean different things to different people & context is vital. Of course we are all looking for a good care outcomes within available resources, equal for all.
