Haha! Some threads are amazing, aren't they? How did we end up here, from @ZedTrafficker starting off talking about acquiring some teabags??

1) The numbers of whistleblowing contacts to CQC have varied & dropped a bit, John 2013 - 9,495 2014 - 4,114 2015/16 - 8,951 (951 about NHS trusts) 2016/17 - 7,506 (584 about NHS trusts) https://minhalexander.com/2017/12/13/two-years-of-national-cqc-whistleblowing-data-on-health-and-social-care-services/ … https://minhalexander.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/20140917-cqc-submission-to-the-francis-review-freedom-to-speak-out-up.pdf …

Again, great work Minh. 'For review at future inspection' always catches my eye. They throw away info after so long (6 months I think?). So if complainants raise a concern, but next visit is 7 months away, info won't be there to act on during inspection. Not sure about WBers?
-
And a third drop in WB numbers in trusts? During a time of such pressure on services? That's bucking the trend.
-
Seem to fluctuate wildly..but can loose stuff in aggregate numbers..also CQC ain’t only Regulator ..others also need to step up
-
Another reason why having a single regulator was always the right idea. Only 1 direction to point the finger then.
-
Well what we’ve got are GMC NMC other prof regulators CQC NHSE NHSI CCGs then Scrutiny Orgs then HealthWatch plus The Courts
-
And they still failed.
-
By design. Always said it's like they took a whole regulator, tore it to bits and threw the parts in different directions, but binned the balls and the teeth.

Don’t think staff perceive themselves as Whistleblowers per se...just they feel confident to say how it is in some organisations..also of course it reflects the excessive pressures on all aspects of care..staff at ‘wits end’ maybe
-
What's in a name? Whatever we call them, they're staff, meaning they are harder to ignore when raising concerns. Or at least... should be!
-
Still an awful lot of intimidation and nasty bullying in the care sector John...protection for those who do raise concerns is still shockingly tooften non existent
-
Why am I not surprised? As I've always said; the only thing the NHS hates more than a complainant, is a knowledgeable complainant. And the only thing they hate more than that, is a whistleblower!
-
Think that’s changing ..but it’s awfully slow especially in certain professions..plenty of enlightened caring people in NHS ...some of the leadership ain’t so enlightened..
