Exactly. We’ve tried and tried to speak out against this.

Maybe in the wrong forums where it was too easy for it to be classed as self-serving. There is little or no fuss from doctors at the point where someone avoidably dies.

I don’t think that’s fair. Doctors horrified by Mid Staffs for example & many of us spoke out and continue to do so, warning of those conditions repeating themselves.

There’s a long history to every scandal and avoidable death before it hits the public domain. I wish doctors involved at the point of harm would show their rage at the system issues at the point of harm. I know it’s there, it shouldn’t be suppressed.

We often do speak out internally to make things safer. Sometimes successfully too. But can’t publicly expose dangers without risking the sack. Trusts have draconian media policies. Culture of fear not candour.

I think the saddest thing is doctors and patients alike want a no blame culture that improves care but you can’t have that with all the lies, it is a catch 22 and doctors can’t have it both ways. There is another mid staffs on the horizon. What is the answer? No idea!

Certainly no inappropriate blame, anyway. I don't know the answer either, but I've a feeling the basic framework will need to look something like this, with securing medical records as a key factor:https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/937068760502079488 …

I think John that after I ensure the bastards who covered up my sons death are hung out to dry I may be in a better position to offer a fresher more balanced opinion. I certainly don’t think that liars should be allowed a no blame culture

I'm completely with you on that. I have sympathy for human beings who make honest mistakes and disclose them. That sympathy ends however, the instant a cover up begins.

I walked in to a meeting 7 weeks after Ben died with my wife and a list of feedback and questions. We knew it didn’t go well but just wanted telling what happened. The lies just unfolded and went on and on and have still not stopped.

I'm so sorry Allyn. It shouldn't be this way. It's a horrible moment, when you suddenly realise that those who should be helping you, are instead trying to deceive you. Utterly devastating & truly life changing.
