#Francis called for a statutory individual duty of candour for doctors. This would make it unlawful to lie to a patient or their family
We didn't get it.
Instead, we were given a fudged organisational duty of candour. Here's how well that's going. >https://twitter.com/Allyncondon/status/937818531642642432 …

John, there is still no legal duty for doctors to tell the truth to bereaved parents/families. Legal duty of candour is owed by NHS employers who can't provide truth to families unless doctors disclose the truth to them & CQC can't take action if the Trust didn't know the truth!

Exactly! I made a similar point below, earlier Will. I remember us talking at the time and agreeing it wasn't what you'd asked for, even though they tried to 'credit' it to you. Borrow your credibility & hope you shut up, more like. >https://twitter.com/C7RKY/status/937822870096564224 …

I missed your post John as I wasn't copied into the thread. Difficult to keep up. Let's hope that one day we have a Freestanding Individial Legal Duty of Candour for all healthcare professionals and all those in public office! @Allyncondon
